This was a table read with a community focus group

This was a table read with a community focus group in conjunction with @busstopfilms that was quite a special one.
I was so moved by the collective stories that were told from the heart! I also just love the authenticity in their humanity 🙌🏽

In particular this experience was created by @davidvalenciam with the sharing of his story in the pages we read on the day. We laughed, we teared up. We felt the mess of life and the love that surrounds it. And what a group to be surrounded by. Wonderful actors around me… it was so inspiring!

My favourite aspect of the show is just how trusting Cath is with what we bring in. There’s so much fun! improv plus some yummy three part harmonies, energetic dancing and more. It’s also quite special to watch the sharp wit of Cath working the audience show after show. You never know where the show takes us. Literally 😂 🍍I love my character Misty. She’s such a weirdo. Also Bette Midler is a legend and her music is 😍

So much gratitude in being able to be part of the lineup for 2024 with the festival. It was awesome to be surrounded by community, check out some other shows and be reminded of just how much we got going on. Adelaide you were the perfect place for it! @thatsmsgaytoyou muah 💋 cannot wait to see what comes for 2025.

🥰 You gotta just go for it. This song actually represents the mindset you need to have in this industry!

What if you fall? But what if you don’t? Even if you did, you can always learn something. Perspective is everything and we need to keep being kind to ourselves!

I’m in a position in my career where I am able to share my wisdom to the next generation of artists. This was filmed a year ago (whaaaaaaaa!), and I look to see those who have graduated and have since booked major theatre work. It’s very exciting to see and be part of their journey to some degree.

I remember the years I spent in places like this, day in and day out. The days where I was TIRED, the days of struggle but also the days where I grew, teachers could see I was growing and recognised that within me. Through the foggy days there were moments of sunshine. It’s a tough industry to carve out a career, there’s no clear cut road, and it is such an individual experience.

Thank you @ettingshausenspro for moments like this, creating spaces where they have the opportunity to have a panel audition experience. These spaces are confronting and we have to do it time and time and again, so it’s great practice whilst you’re studying!

And also joining me at the time @chamgibbs and @sjbakkartist 🥳👏🏽❤️ wonderfully experienced and educated!

⭐ Neglected Musicals “They’re Playing Our So

⭐ Neglected Musicals “They’re Playing Our Song” was so fun and tested my skills in a different way. We had one day rehearsal to stage a whole musical and had opening night a couple of days later! With a solid week of 8 shows, by the end it felt rehearsed by that point I was ready to continue the season. Ha. The great thing about it was we could have a script in our hand so the notes were easy to access.

I enjoyed the process working with new and familiar faces!

💙 Thank you Michelle Guthrie and Neglected Musicals for the opportunity to be back at the Hayes Theatre again. What a great idea to create something like Neglected Musicals.

💙 Lisa Callingham at the helm directing (in such experienced hands, thank you!), and the brilliant David Gardos as MD keeping us musically in line as one could with limited rehearsal time and providing some epic sound effects too. My engine vocal part was ready though.

💙 The wonderful crew of Ruby on costumes nailing the 70s brief and Krystelle as our SM with Hana looking after us all and did a stellar job.

💙 Our wonderful leads Zoe and Justin - what a gift to watch you work the magic onstage. Epic. Loved watching you both night after night.

💙 And to the cast: Emily, Chloe, Jordan, Matt and Quinton thanks for makin it a fun ride! “The Voices” live on…just ‘workin it out’.🥰

The audiences who came loved the nostalgia and I could see why. It had that 70s charm, musically timeless (thanks Marvin Hamlisch!) lyrically popular (What a talent Carole Bayer Sager) and the writing by Neil Simon was witty, sharp and moving. Just two people trying to work each other out with all their faults. Life.

🎹🎤They’re Playing Our Song is a musical with a book by Neil Simon, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager, and music by Marvin Hamlisch . In a story based on the real-life relationship of Hamlisch and Sager, a wisecracking composer finds a new, offbeat lyricist, but initially the match is not one made in heaven.

NEGLECTED MUSICALS is a theatre initiative dedicated to presenting musical theatre that has never (or rarely) been seen in Australia. NEGLECTED MUSICALS presents a reading of a chosen show with scripts in hand and with the musical numbers sung through, after only one day’s rehearsals.
